Building societies 'provide better customer service'

Building societies deliver better customer service and higher satisfaction than other financial service providers, new research claims.

The Building Societies' Association (BSA) had research carried out by GfK NOP which found that 72 per cent of mortgage customers were extremely or very satisfied with their building society, compared to 62 per cent with other providers.

Two-thirds (67 per cent) of building society customers said that they were treated fairly, compared to 48 per cent of bank customers, while 68 per cent said they got reasonable value for money from their institution.

According to the BSA, building societies are able to treat their customers better as they do not have the interests of shareholders to look after.

Adrian Coles, director general of the BSA, commented: "For a long time we have been saying building societies are better than PLCs at working for their customers.

"It is good to know, but no surprise, that these results back that up."ADNFCR-1116-ID-18231594-ADNFCR
