Nationwide 'most trusted lender'

The Nationwide building society has been voted the most trusted lender in the UK by a new study from moneysupermarket.com.

The price comparison website has revealed that its survey saw 19 per cent of respondents pronounce Nationwide to be their most trusted bank or building society, followed by Natwest (13 per cent) and Halifax (11 per cent).

High on the list of desired attributes was customer services, cited by 39 per cent of respondents as a key reason behind their choice.

"Nationwide performed brilliantly – not only clearly outstripping its rivals but also being the only building society in the top ten," said moneysupermarket.com's Kevin Mountford.

"The Northern Rock crisis has clearly focused people's minds with service, reputation and lack of problems being uppermost in people's minds – even ahead of product offerings," Mr Mountford continued.

Last month a host of advice websites, including moneysupermarket and Moneyfacts.co.uk, cautioned consumers to be on their guard when it comes to hidden and additional mortgage fees.
