The average UK homebuyer would rather search for a property on the internet than use more traditional methods.

New research from Hot Property reveals that 86 per cent of buyers opt to use the net over looking in local newspapers and visiting estate agencies.

The ease with which a large number of properties can be looked at on the internet is thought to be behind the behavioural shift.

According to the Hot Property survey, only 4.6 per cent of buyers would rather use a high street office, 4.4 per cent use the local newspaper and just four per cent prefer to search using listings magazines.

"It comes as no surprise that people use the internet as their primary source for their property search. Online property services… offer real time data across the whole country and across a range of price ranges," said the firm's managing director Shawn Luetchens.

"It is a simple and concise way to get a whole of market view while also being able to specify exactly what you are looking for.

"However there is still a market for other mediums of advertising, with 14 per cent of people still using papers and high street offices over the internet," he added.ADNFCR-1116-ID-18435195-ADNFCR
